Raised on dairy farms in the San Antonio area, Charles served in the United States Army in the Pacific from 1945 to 1946. Following his service, he returned home to apprentice as a carpenter, ultimately working for Eastern Airlines for 32 years until his retirement in 1985.
In his spare time, Charles enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar, building custom furniture, woodworking projects, and taking his family camping, particularly in Garner Park. He participated in sign language classes to be able to communicate with his granddaughter.
Charles was a handyman who rarely met a home repair that he couldn't fix, and he was an avid gardener who could grow anything. He was also known by friends and family as a practical joker. Descended from the original settlers of New Braunfels, Texas, he grew up speaking Texas German.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 2 brothers, and his grandson, Jeffrey Busch.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Peggy (Stark) Busch and their three children, Dennis Busch and wife Peggy, Becky Busch, and Cindy Valdez, and his grandchildren, Brian Busch, Jeanna Valdez, and Vanessa Valdez, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
