He was born in Yoakum, Texas on April 7, 1934. He graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1952. Charles was a locomotive engineer for the Southern Pacific and the Union Pacific Railroads. He was also a road foreman of engines during his career in railroading of over 40 years.
Charles is survived by his wife Raquel Day; son Billy Ray Day and wife Pat; son Charles Todd Day; step-son Francisco Javier Medina and wife Rosie; step-son Raul N. Medina and wife Jackie; brother Bobby Hale Day and wife Jimmie; brother Billy Glyn Day and wife Elina; sister Mary Pillians and husband Johnny. He also had seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his father John Coleman Day; mother Pearl Day; brother John Edward Day and sister Ruby Pearl Ezzell.
