

Col. Charles Marshall Fergusson, Jr., US Army Ret passed away on Friday, September 15, 2006. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Almond Fergusson of San Antonio, TX; sons, Col. Thomas G. Fergusson, US Army, Ret. and wife, June of Great Falls, VA and Edward M.A. Fergusson and wife, Eden of North Easton, MA; daughter, Sarah Fergusson Royal of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Robin Fergusson, Eric Fergusson, Megan Fergusson, Kate Fergusson, Daniel Park and Michael Park.
Charles was a 1942 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. During WWII, he served in the 1st Cavalry Division in the invasion of the Philippines and the Occupation of Japan. Charles received his Master's of Public Affairs degree in 1950 from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at West Point from 1951-1954.
As a Major, he served in the NATO Headquarters in Izmir, Turkey, 1955-1957. As a Lt. Col., he commanded the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry in Korea, 1961-1962. As a Colonel, he commanded the famous 14th Cavalry Regiment of approximately 5, 000 soldiers at Fulda, Germany in 1966-1967. His final Army assignment was at the Headquarters of III Corps at Fort Hood, TX.
When he retired in 1970, he and Margaret settled in Austin, TX. After his Army retirement, he received his PhD from the University of Texas, Austin.
Charles was a great fisherman, loved horses and was an avid collector of Native American artifacts. He loved the outdoors, especially the Texas Hill Country.
Of all his accomplishments, he will be most remembered as a loving husband, father, and proud American Patriot.
There will be no local service; interment will be conducted at the West Point Cemetery at West Point, New York at a date to be determined.
