
Charles William Gray, 79, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas. Born on May 27, 1943 at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis Missouri to Bill and Dorothy Haeger Gray. Charles graduated from Southwest High School in 1961 and went on to attend University of Missouri. Charles was a fifth generation US Navy serviceman. After the Navy, he began a career in retail as a stockroom manager at JCPenney where over his 39-year tenure he held multiple positions retiring as the vice president of Geographical Markets. A board member of several universities and charitable organizations, Charles was an active ministry leader of Community Bible Church’s Godly Grillers, JourneyMen of San Antonio, and volunteered regularly for his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Keith Gray; and grandson, Zachariah David Gray.
Charles is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Gray; son, Charles William Gray, Jr. (Jill); son, Steven Roderick Gray (Heather); daughter, Dana Rose Gray (Jerry); Carla Ann Weiser (Allen); Stacey Renee Gray (Chris); grandchildren, Elijah, Isaiah, Charles, Taylor, Caleb and Marissa; brother, Bill and sister, Patricia of St. Louis; various bothers-in -law, and sisters-in-law numerous brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a faith family too numerous to name.
Charles will be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in a private family service. A Celebration of life is being held at the Fellowship of San Antonio at 11:00am on September 17, 2022.
