

On May 19, 2023, Charles Martinez Jr., a devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas with his family by his side. He was born on January 28, 1927 in De Ridder, Louisiana to Carlos and Maria G. Martinez.
Charles left Pierce, Texas as a teenager to work in Detroit, Michigan. There, at age 18, he was drafted to the Army Air Corps and served during WWII until the formation of the Air Force in 1947. He was then transferred to the Air Force and served in Special Services. After marrying Susana in 1952, they moved back to Detroit Michigan to work for Grand Truck Railroad for 15 years before returning to San Antonio in December 1967. Once back in San Antonio, Charles worked at Kelly Air Force Base, retiring in 1992 after 30 years of civil service. Charles and Susana enjoyed their life together until her passing in 1983.
Charles had a passion for dancing, photography and traveling especially by car - visiting Canada, Mexico, and Europe during his lifetime.
He is preceded in death by his wife of thirty years Susana T. Martinez; sister Elvida Valdez; brothers Henry, Earnest, Edward and Eliverto Martinez. Charles is survived by his daughter JoAnna Lopez and husband Hector, son Charles Martinez III and wife Norma, three grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Charles' memory will live on through his many great works leaving behind a legacy of love that will always be remembered by those who knew him best - his beloved family members who are forever grateful for having had him grace their lives with his powerful presence.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, June 5, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery #2 where Charles and Susana will be reunited again. A reception will follow the burial. Details will be made available at the service.
In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made in Charles’ honor to Wounded Warriors or a local charity of your choice.
