Born on October 4, 1947, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Charles was a man of great intellect, love, and analytical prowess, whose life was as vibrant and nurturing as the gardens he so lovingly tended.
A proud alumnus of Louisiana State University, Charles dedicated his academic pursuits to the field of Chemistry, which paved the way for a successful career as a Chemist at Cosmar Polystyrene. His contributions to the field were not only professional but also personal, as he shared his passion for science with everyone around him.
Charles's love for life was evident in his many interests. He was an avid supporter of LSU Football, embodying the spirit and camaraderie of the game. Travel was another of Charles's passions, allowing him to explore and embrace the beauty of diverse cultures and landscapes. His love for the outdoors was further expressed through his enjoyment of gardening, running, boating, and spending time at the beach. These activities reflected Charles's appreciation for nature and his desire to immerse himself in the tranquility it offered.
Above all, Charles was a family man. He is survived by his devoted wife, Loy Mathis, who was his partner in all of life's adventures. His loving presence will be profoundly missed by his sons, Scott and Bryan Muenzler and his sister Emily Mathis. Charles's legacy continues through his grandsons, Nicholas Muenzler and Beau Roark, who will carry forward the wisdom and kindness he imparted.
Predeceased by his father, Charles Hartley Mathis Jr., and his mother, Carey Sizemore Mathis, Charles's memory will be honored by all who knew him as a man who lived a full and meaningful life.

His ability to approach life with both a warm heart and a sharp mind made him a beacon of guidance and support within his community.
