Charles Joseph Nolan, known affectionately as Chuck to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, at the age of 77 in San Antonio, Texas. Born on April 16, 1947, in Fostoria, Ohio, Chuck's life was marked by his dedication to his country, his love for his family, and his passion for sports and entertainment.
Chuck's early years in Fostoria were filled with the joys of playing high school football, baseball, and competitive swimming. His athletic talents were only matched by his academic achievements, which led him to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Chuck's commitment to his country was evident when he served in the Air Force Security Services from 1967 to 1971, a period of his life that he always held in high regard.
After his honorable discharge, Chuck embarked on a career in the food service industry, where he found his niche as a manager. His leadership skills and friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in the community. Later, he transitioned into managing convenience stores, where he continued to showcase his intelligence and knack for connecting with people from all walks of life.
Chuck's personal life was as rich and fulfilling as his professional one. He shared a beautiful marriage with his wife, Carol Nolan, who has been his partner in every sense of the word. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Cecilia Edsell and Coral Nolan, who brought immense joy and pride to Chuck's life. His role as a father was one he cherished deeply, and he instilled in his daughters the values of humor, kindness, and intellect.
Despite the demands of work and family, Chuck never lost his love for sports. He continued to participate in baseball and softball leagues well into his adulthood and enjoyed the camaraderie and competition of bowling leagues. His competitive spirit was always present, whether on the field or in the lanes.
In his later years, Chuck found entertainment and solace in detective crime shows, with NCIS and Blue Bloods being among his favorites. He also loved to keep his mind sharp by watching game shows for hours on end on the Game Show Network. His laughter and commentary during these viewing sessions were as much a part of the shows as the programming itself.
Those who knew Chuck will remember him as a funny, intelligent, and friendly man. His sense of humor was infectious, and he had a natural ability to make those around him smile. His intelligence was not just academic but also emotional, as he understood and cared for the feelings of others. Chuck's friendly nature made him a friend to many, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we say goodbye to Charles Joseph Nolan, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, laughter, and the pursuit of happiness. His legacy will live on through his family, his friends, and the countless lives he touched with his warm spirit.
Chuck's life will be commemorated in a private ceremony attended by immediate family and friends. He will be laid to rest with the dignity and respect he so richly deserves at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery. As we reflect on Chuck's journey, we are reminded of the impact one life can have and the enduring memories that remain as a testament to a life of purpose and joy.
