

Our dear mother Charlotte Brown passed away peacefully surrounded by her four children on August 18, at the age of 86. She was a wonderful mother who was there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, and love. A friend and mentor to many, she was a cherished member of the community in Portland TX, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength.
She studied at Trinity University Class of 1960 receiving her Bachelor of Arts cum laude and went on to receive her Masters Degree in Education from Texas A&M in Corpus Christi. She taught for a total of 56 years at only 2 schools. First as a Theater Teacher at Edison High School San Antonio Texas. She also became the Head of the Fine Arts Department. She remained at Edison for 11 years. Then she began teaching at Gregory Portland High in 1972 and remained there until her retirement in 2017.
Over the years, her students won 7 UIL State One Act Play Championships, competed 18 times at the UIL One Act State meet placing all but 3 times, won the District One Act play competition 44 out of 45 years, along with many National (NSDA) finalists and competitors, UIL State and TFA Champions and finalists in speech. She was a five diamond NSDA coach, voted into the TFA Hall of Fame, selected for the University of Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High School Teachers, was Gregory-Portland 's Teacher of the Year, and upon her retirement the school district named the performing arts building the Charlotte Brown Performing Arts Center.
She was predeceased by her father Thomas McCaughan , mother Mina Culberson and leaves behind 4 children , Caprice Ritcheson daughter, Melody Myers daughter & Nino Myers Spouse, Brett Barrier son & Melissa Barrier Spouse, Brad Barrier son & Julie Barrier Spouse. 9 Grandchildren Shawn Cooper, Joseph Cooper Jr., and spouse Amanda, Caprice Eastham and Spouse Andrew Eastham, Shannon Hoeveler, Brandon Barrier and Crystan Barrier Spouse, Amanda Moore and Chandler Moore Spouse, Christina Barrier, Courtney Barrier, Braylie Barrier and 8 Great Grandchildren along with countless friends who felt her warmth and generosity.
Celebration of Life will be held on October 25th at 1pm at the Performing Arts Center named after her at the Gregory Portland High School in Portland, Texas.

Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio is where she will be laid to rest with her Parents and Grandparents. This will be a private family Burial.
