He was a 29-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department where he served as a sergeant at the South Frio substation.
Named after his grandfather C.J. Kemmy of Omaha, Nebraska, Chris was born on April 3, 1953 to Jack and Lois Kemmy and was the fourth of eight Kemmy children.
He grew up in the Blessed Sacrament parish and graduated from Lee High School in 1971.
Chris loved the outdoors, especially the Canyon Lake area, and was an avid deer hunter. His "special place" was a small, scenic lot atop a cliff overlooking the Lake where he built a small cabin. Chris was outspoken and had strong conservative beliefs.
Chris Kemmy was a compassionate man who routinely made room in his life for assisting those less fortunate than him. He had a rare sensitivity to assisting the elderly, and helping the handicapped, and befriending the downtrodden. Much to the surprise of other family members, Chris would often show up to Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner with a complete stranger.
Chris was a loving father and was very proud of his two daughters, Brandi and Jessica.
He is survived by his mother, Lois Kemmy; two sisters, Kathy Clay and Jackie James; five brothers, John, Pat, Michael, Terry, and Tom; four grandchildren, Sarah, Destiny, Trevin and Daryll; aunts and uncles, Alice McGowan, Dick Kemmy and wife, Dorothy; Lou Larson and Helen Roth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are his five brothers, Danny Pagel and Mike Vorhis.
