Claire had countless friends and one by one they passed away until none were left.

Claire married Dad when he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston as a flight surgeon.  He had a one day pass to travel to Galveston, get married, and return to post.  Claire often said the army days, and days while he was on a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, where the most fascinating days of her life – especially when army troops marched on parade grounds singing "The Army Air Corps Song" and when he returned home from the Clinic and talked about medical stuff.  

When they came to San Antonio, we lived on Bronson, then Ridgemont, and, finally, Robinhood.  When his practice grew very large, Dad wanted to relocate to a corner house on El Prado but Mom’s mother bought a home a few houses away, so Mom refused to move.  

Mom was an accomplished pianist and did well sight reading difficult renditions.  She never had to practice!  She gave up music to obtain a degree at Trinity, then took up art and studied under Adams, Salinas, and Vivas.  By her own words, she was a master!  She was a lead docent at the McNay and was frequently given choice assignments.  She received laudatory letters from well-known visitors; she never told who the visitors were.   And, she worked many years at the Green Door.

Claire had a full life and was fortunate to meet Dad – and her second husband, Paul.  

Claire painted the “Ship on High Seas” at my request.  It was painted from her imagination!   Most of her work was landscape scenes.

We were so sorry to read of your mother’s passing. She was a wonderful lady and a good friend to our mother. Our parents always enjoyed hosting your parents when they visited Reno in the 60’s and  70s. Apparently, our mothers kept in touch over the years. I still have one of your mothers’s floral paintings in our home. After so many years and the passing of our fathers, your mother attended our mother’s services at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in October 2012. It was so good to see and visit with her again. My brother and I always felt as though we had a great friend and mentor in your father. Your Mom and Dad were wonderful friends of my parents in San Antonio. We spent lots of fun days at your home swimming in your pool. Your family was a special part of my childhood. 
I remember running from your Dad at our home when he came over to give me and my siblings our vaccination shots. I must have been a handful. 
I stayed in touch with your beautiful Mom in her later years and she shared special stories with me about my parents, who I had lost at a young age. 
You were very blessed to have such a special lady as your Mom and I pray you find peace.
