She was a volunteer with the Army Community Service, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Clare was a member of the Officer's Wives Club and received the Military Wife of the Year award at Ft. Dix, NJ in 1971. She was a recipient of the Molly Pitcher award for distinguished service as an officer's wife in the community at Ft. Sill, OK in 1974.
Clare was preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine King and her sister, Patricia Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Wally Scanlon; children, Carolyn Karger and husband, Tom, Jay Scanlon and Cathy Scanlon; two grandchildren, Colin and Brice Karger; sisters, Catherine Anne Timoney and Jane King Karlson; brother, John A. King, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was always optimistic and had a smile on her face.
