

She died peacefully at her home and was preceded in death by her parents, Alice Farley and Clarence Carl Fehrenbach; nephew, Theron C. Fehrenbach II; and niece, Karen Elaine Bahlmann.
Clarece is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ben Edward Hays; daughters, Carla H. Fehrenbach of Bastrop and Benita H. Smith and husband, Leon of San Antonio; and son, Karl E. Hays of Austin. She is also survived by her sisters, Alice F. Mund and husband, Arthur of Tolar and Doris E. Marshall and husband, Bill of Bandera; and brother LTC Theron C. Fehrenbach and wife, Scottie of Lafayette, LA. Mrs. Hays leaves behind two grandchildren, Shannon Marie Britain of San Antonio and Conner Edward Hays of Austin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Mrs. Hays was born in San Antonio on September 30, 1927. She was a 1943 graduate of Brackenridge High School, where she was a member of the Purple Jackets dance team. Upon graduation, she began a Civil Service career as a secretary at Kelly AFB, helping her recently widowed mother care for her two younger sisters. It was there that she met her husband, Ben, and soon settled into the duties of an Air Force Officer's wife. The two traveled to duty stations in Mississippi, California, Okinawa and Alabama. Upon his retirement, they returned to San Antonio, where she left her career to raise their three children. Once her family was grown, Mrs. Hays served as Dorm Mother for the student dormitory of the Baptist Hospital's School of Nursing. She was also a long-time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Pallbearers will be Theron Mund, William R. Ward, William S. Ward, Alexander Ward, Daniel Marshall and Patrick Mayo.
