
He was born, the oldest son of Joseph and Ara Whitaker, on December 16, 1919 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He attended school in the Nacogdoches School district and later enlisted in the Army in 1942 where he served in World War II.
Claude united in matrimony to Fannie May Hyde in 1941. To that union, four surviving children: Claude Mary, Robert Jean, Kevin Bobbie and Amelonee Traviswere born.
In 1952, they moved to San Antonio, Texas where he worked as a mechanic for many years.
As a young adult, Claude accepted Christ, was baptized and became a member of the West End Baptist Church. Later, he became a faithful member of Second Baptist Church until his health failed. He loyally served on the Senior Usher Board and also catered for many special church events.
On December 14, 1961, he married Ester Lee Hanes deceased. Through that union, Claude became the father and best friend to Willie G. deceased.
In addition to his children, Claude leaves to mourn his death, one beloved brother, Herbert Sue and one sister, Jewel Myers Tommy. His brother, Joe Sephronia preceded him in death.
His eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren will miss his tall tales, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor.
His nieces and nephews will miss his robust laughter and generous smile.
His cousins and many relatives will miss, Hammer.
Claude will be remembered for the years of ownership of Sunset Barbeque.
He will also be remembered for his excellent work as a caretaker throughout homes and business in the San Antonio area
