Cliff Morton

Born August 8, 1932, in Elk City, Oklahoma, he moved to West Texas with his family when he was nine-years-old. His parents, Eugene and Ruby Morton, farmed in Big Square near Muleshoe, and Cliff attended Earth-Spring Lake Consolidated Schools. Upon graduation from high school, he went to Baylor University, where he was a member of ROTC.

Cliff graduated from Baylor in 1954 and immediately entered the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant stationed at Lackland AFB's flight training school. At the end of his training, he remained at Lackland and taught basic training until 1957.

In 1957, he entered St. Mary's University School of Law and also worked in sales at International Motor Co. In 1959, just a semester shy of graduation from law school, he left to join Quincy Lee Homes as sales manager.

Lee and Morton became partners in the early 1960s, and the company changed its name to Morton and Lee. In the early 1970s, Cliff bought Lee's interest in the business, and formed Morton Southwest, one of San Antonio's largest homebuilders.

In the 1980s, under the name of Morton Homes, the company expanded from homebuilding into the ownership of nursing care facilities throughout Texas as well as pecan orchards and commercial development.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Judy Nuhn Morton; daughter, Leah Morton of Boulder, CO; sister, Mary Etheridge of San Antonio; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Loyd and Mitzi Dreher of Austin and Vivian and A.D. Nuhn, Jr. of New Braunfels; and numerous nieces and nephews.
