Clyde Harris Landry, age 72, passed away September 19, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 11, 1948 to Frank Joseph and Nellie Mae Landry. He was a loving husband, father and friend who will be dearly missed. Clyde graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1966. Clyde remained close to several very special classmates from Woodlawn up until the time of his death. He joined the Air Force in 1968 and retired from service in 1992. He managed NCO clubs while in the Air Force and owned and managed clubs in Louisiana and Texas after he returned to civilian life. In 1993 he came to San Antonio and became an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he developed spiritually and discovered his calling to help others. In 1997 he earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University and a year later he obtained his degree of Master of Social Work. After graduation from OLLU Clyde was employed by Brooke Army Medical Center as a Case Manager and he worked there until he retired in 2006. Even in retirement Clyde continued to help others who were battling alcohol addiction and continued doing so as long as he was physically able. Clyde had 27 years of continuous sobriety at the time of his death. Clyde loved playing golf but the sport he really loved was LSU football. Clyde was known for his enthusiasm for the LSU Tigers. He was blessed to have seen an extremely impressive season by the Tigers last year which ended with LSU winning the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger Landry, sons, Jon Landry and Sean Landry, daughters, Jenn Landry and Allison Childers, Step-daughter, Jennifer Pruske, grandchildren, Alex Landry-Zank, Courtney Landry, Trinity Landry, Joe Snider, M’Kendra Landry, Amiah Ballard and Evan Ballard, great-grandchildren, Addison and Olive, sister, Wanda Smith, daughter-in-laws, Angie Landry and Stacia Landry and son-in-law, Fred Childers.
Due to the current pandemic, only 50 people will be allowed in the chapel at a time. In order to accommodate as many of our friends and family as we can, we will have two services to be held at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel located at 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, Texas 78218.
A memorial service for our friends will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020, at 7:00 pm.
A private funeral service for family will be on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at 12:30 pm. The interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 pm with Air Force Honors. The funeral service and interment will be streamed live on the Sunset Funeral Home Facebook page. Please honor the family’s request for this private service.
TO FRIENDS IN AA: It has become very evident that Clyde had many more friends in recovery than the Chapel can accommodate. In light of this, there will be a third Celebration of Life gathering exclusively for AA members. The date, time and location for this event will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, it was Clyde’s wish to have a fund created in his memory and the donations distributed equally among several organizations devoted to helping others that he so loved.
