

Carlos Boyd G. Campbell, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. Carlos was born in Panama and raised in Chicago, IL by his parents Ruby Brown and Joseph Bumzahem. In 1979 at the age of 45 he met and married the love of his life Nydia Haydee while working at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine as professor and chairman of the anatomy department.
In 1996 Carlos retired as a COL from the US ARMY. Carlos was an avid learner receiving 4 degrees including an MD and a PhD from the University of Illinois. Not only did he like to learn but loved to teach, he was a professor at various universities including Former Associate Professor of Neuroscience at Indiana University from 1967 to 1974; Former Professor and Director of the Department of Anatomy at the University of Puerto Rico; Research Neurologist at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research from 1979 to 1996 and Professor of Anatomy at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona 1996 to 2013. He was also a member of the Decorated Sovereign Order of Knights of St. John of Jerusalem Knights of Malta and known for his research on Tree Shrews with co-writer William Hodos.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ruby Brown and Joseph Bumzahem. Carlos is survived by his loving wife Nydia Haydee Campbell, son Christopher Campbell, daughter Zinnia Satour-Chra, son-in-law Christopher Todd, sister-in-law Cuchy Gonzalez, and granddaughter Isabella Todd. Survivors also include first wife Deborah Campbell, daughter Ellen Campbell, son Gowan Campbell, son Kenneth Campbell, and grandson Nathaniel Kohlmeier.
