Conrad Theodore Anderson passed peacefully from this life on September 27, 2016 at age 99. Conrad was born on June 24, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois to immigrant parents, Anton Theodore Anderson (Sweden) and Joanna Harmacinski (Poland).
The family moved to Texas when he was five years old and he considered himself a full-fledged Texan. He graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1934, received his Bachelor's degree from St. Mary's University in 1938 and his Master's degree from the University of Texas in 1942. He began his public education career as a teacher at Harris Junior school, and then at Fox Tech High School.
After a 2-year stint as a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps (Air Force) flying B-17s during World War II, he returned to his love, teaching at Tech High. He became the first boy's counselor at Tech, then principal at Harris Junior High, and completed his career as Principal of Fox Tech in 1978. Conrad was a Phi Delta Kappan (past president), and a member of the Texas Retired Teacher Association.
He was an avid golfer (3-time city senior champ), fisherman, world traveler and accomplished artist. He truly enjoyed helping his neighbors and friends, and lived a life of integrity and incredible work ethic. He was loved and respected by many, and had a positive influence on those he touched.
Conrad is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Loraine; sister, Virginia Boeck; daughter, Janis (Bruce) Tschoepe; sons, Ken Anderson and Ted Anderson; grandchildren, Rick (Jennie) Grothues, Trent (Jennifer) Grothues and Elizabeth (Ross) Poulter; and six great-grandchildren.
Conrad was preceded in death by his parents, brother Irvin Anderson, daughter Kay Grothues, and granddaughter, Kara Grothues. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm on Monday, October 3, 2016 at Porter Loring on McCullough.
