Connie was a social worker while Brad attended medical school. They started a family in 1950 with the birth of their first child, and after stops in Philadelphia (Brad in Korea) and Minneapolis, they landed in San Antonio in 1966, where they raised six children.
Together they worked tirelessly to promote programs devoted to people with special needs, starting with the ARC and later co-founding non-profit RMI (Reaching Maximum Independence).
Connie had a passion for reading, attacked the daily crossword puzzle, played a mean game of scrabble and rode bikes all over Europe.
Her greatest gift was the example she set for her children and grandchildren on how to be a giving, loving person.
Brad passed away in 2010 after 60 years of marriage and daughter Linda passed away in 2013.
Connie is survived by her brother Bruce MacMullin and her children: Jay Aust and wife Christi Carletti, Bonnie Aust and husband Peter Rotwein, Barb Hodge, MaryLou and husband John Gallion, and Tracey and husband Mike Norment. Grandchildren: Kelsey and husband Joe Schagemann, Abby Rotwein and Wale Desalu, Kate Rotwein and husband Matt Rogers, Hannah Rotwein and Sam Kusin, Ryan and wife Heidi Hodge, Kelti and husband Ryan Smith, Olivia and husband Kurt Zanca, Jake and wife Erin Gallion, Kasey Norment and Sam Ruiz, Lindsay and husband Vincent Sanchez, Haley Norment, and Carly Norment. Great grandchildren: Mila, Seamus, Spirit, Hakan, Niyol, Talia, and Will.
A special thanks to Rose Garza for all the loving care she gave Connie over 25 years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Reaching Maximum Independence (RMI) 6336 Montgomery Drive San Antonio, Texas 78259.
