Constance Sue (Turner) Edwards, 84, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 15, 2015 with family and friends by her side. She was born May 29, 1930 in El Reno, OK, the daughter of the late Ruth E. (Shuck) and Nelson B. Turner. Sue married Charles H. Edwards June 3, 1950. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Sue never stopped seeking knowledge. Sue graduated from Classen High School, Oklahoma City, in 1948. She received her Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree from Oklahoma State University, formerly Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1952. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in 1979 and her Master of Business Administration in 1983, both from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Her education wasn't just in the traditional degree programs. Sue earned the designation of Certified Professional Secretary in 1960. This certification required passing a very rigorous 12 hour exam covering subjects from business law to business administration. She earned her Real Estate license in 1977 and passed the special enrollment examination with the IRS in 1981.
Sue was also active in many different organizations. She was a member of the Executive Women International (EWI) organization holding many offices including President, Vice President, Secretary and other committee positions. With 30 years of non-stop membership, Sue became a lifetime member of the American Philatelic Society. She was also a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It wasn't unusual to see Sue's name in the local seen-ery section of the newspaper listing event chairs and upcoming social events.
Sue worked for IBM, where she had been awarded the "IBM Means Service Award". After 30 years of service with IBM, she retired in 1992. Prior to IBM, Sue was employed by Humble Oil & Refining Company, now ExxonMobil, in Houston. In retirement, Sue enjoyed working at conventions.
In her spare time, Sue enjoyed needlework, sewing, playing bridge and traveling. She traveled with her friends to many great places including Belgium, Germany, Italy, England, France, Spain, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Alaska. She also enjoyed collecting stamps, Avon collectibles and wine & liquor labels. Her needlework and curtains decorate her home.
Surviving Sue are daughter-in-law Patricia (Kordowski) Edwards and grandsons Christopher C., Alexander C. and Matthew C. Edwards, all of Finksburg MD; nephew Joseph Turner of Dallas, TX; nieces Ann (Turner) Horton of Dallas TX and Sue (Turner) Majerus of Tulsa OK; great nieces Mashala and Rayshel Horton; great nephew Franklin Green; friend of 50+ years Peggy Keesee; many other friends, as well as her Schipperke dogs Bungee and Princess.
Sue was predeceased by sons, Paul C. Edwards and Charles N. Edwards; and by brother Joseph "JD" "DEE" Turner.
Sue was appropriately described in one EWI article with this quote: "One of the dependable mainstays who can always be counted upon to lend a helping hand". Sue made a positive impact on family, friends and co-workers. She will be missed by all who knew her.
