It is with extreme sadness and a heavy heart that the Kirk family announces the sudden passing of Curtis Allen Kirk. Curtis was many things to many people, a husband, father, grandpa, brother, son, uncle, nephew, cousin, confidant, friend, mentor and colleague. To know him was to love him.
Curtis Allen Kirk was born April 2, 1975 in Taishan, Taiwan. His father was in the Air Force and met his mother overseas. His two sisters followed closely behind and they spent some of their formative years growing up on Randolph AFB. Curtis had fond memories of playing on base with his sisters and their friends near them in row housing. They enjoyed going to the bowling alley on base where his dad was in a bowling league. Playing baseball and collecting baseball cards was something he enjoyed as a child as well. Blockbuster movie nights were one of the highlights of their weekends. As he got older Curtis wanted to be in the Air Force like his dad. He joined JROTC in high school and quickly moved up the ranks. He had aspirations of attending the Air Force Academy upon graduation. It was in JROTC at Judson High School, Converse, TX that he met his wife, Tressa Kirk. She changed the course of his life and he didn’t look back. They faced many hardships in their thirty years of marriage, but that only strengthened their love for each other and the family they created. He loved watching sports and movies or binging TV series and continued to enjoy bowling, and was quite good as well. Curtis was a Pittsburgh Steelers football fan from birth and a San Antonio Spurs basketball fan by choice and enjoyed watching these games with his dad and family. Faith was always something he struggled with, however, Pastor Robert Emmitt from Community Bible Church represented a turning point in his life and he came to know Jesus and was saved.
Curtis was funny and witty and always had the best quips and comebacks. He always gave of himself and sacrificed so others around him could have. He made sure that his family always knew how much they meant to him and how much he loved them. He was hardworking, but always knew how to let loose and have a good time. He had so many wonderful adventures with his family and friends. Whether it was to the lake or coast for fishing, cruising and floating at Canyon Lake, to visit family out of town, watching movies at Santikos or sharing a drink and a good meal, he was always ready to go. Curtis loved perfecting his recipes for mouth-watering brisket, ribs, pulled pork and more; and his family and friends loved being his taste testers! He loved without abandon, which made you love him that much more. He was the best father and grandfather there ever was, and his family was his whole world and he was theirs, especially to his wife who was his other half. They hated being separated and had many plans for their future that included many more cook-outs with family, trying new foods, traveling and growing old together. Family and friends came to him for advice, and he was always there to listen with an open heart. His strength was the foundation for his family and his life. He was well respected at work for his nearly 30 years of dedication to the Cavender Auto Group. Through the years, he touched many lives and was a mentor, confidant and friend to all who knew him.
Curtis was preceded in death this past September by his father, William Thomas Kirk. Curtis is survived by his beloved wife, Tressa, and their children, Alyssa and fiance Shane Dunlap, William and wife Ashley Kirk, Jonathon Kirk, and Madelyn Kirk. He was also a loving grandfather to Ella Faith and Grace Olivia Kirk. He also handpicked, from heaven, baby Dunlap scheduled to arrive January 1, 2025. Curtis is also survived by his mother, Mei Hua Chen and husband Carl Gower, step-mother Mae Kirk, father and mother in-law Gary and wife Alicia Hamm. His sister Cheryl and husband Terrance Pinnix, and sister Linda and husband Corey Patterson, brother-in-law Brian and wife Jessica Hamm, sister-in-law Christina and husband Noel Anguiano, sister-in-law Deborah and husband Jessie Slusher; step sister Sandra Miller and step sister Sherry and husband Stephen Abbott. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews: Alexis, Kaylan, Kai, Jamir, Kymani, Tyrell, Devon, Mei Lani, CJ, Shayla, Tristan, Zuri, Michael, Liliana, Caitlyn, Vanessa, Haleigh, Ian, and Brianna.
Although Curtis's time on Earth has come to an end, we are comforted that his eternal life has begun in heaven with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. His legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and he will be deeply missed and dearly remembered by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. May Curtis rest in peace, surrounded by the love and light he brought into the world.
