Dan Detmar Jr.

Born on August 17th, 1934, and raised in San Antonio. He served his country in the United States Army before returning back home to build his life. He built his career the way he built everything else, from the ground up, starting behind the wheel of an ice truck running routes across the area and eventually rising to Vice President of Mission Party Ice. The people who worked alongside him knew him as tough, driven, and completely committed to whatever was in front of him.

Outside of work, Dan was a man of passions. He loved the outdoors, whether hunting or fishing, and carried that same energy to the golf course. He roped calves and raced horses with the kind of intensity that defined him. Dan did not do anything halfway.

To those who knew him only in passing, he was a hard man who did hard work and expected the same of others. To his family, he was something more. Over the years, the tough exterior softened into a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved deeply and showed it.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie Pearl (GiGi), his sister, Theresa Duff, and his grandson, Dan Trace Jr.

Dan is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy, and his three children: his daughter Penny and her son Conner and his wife Analisa; his son Dan Trace, his wife Sandra, and his children Stacy, and Melissa and her husband Lee; and his son Wayne, his wife Elaine, and their sons Jason and his wife Danielle and Matthew and his wife Ashton. He leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He poured his heart and soul into his work, his passions, and his people. He lived a full life, finished the race, and is now resting in the arms of his Savior.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Cornerstone Church, 18755 Stone Oak Pkwy, San Antonio, Texas.

Pastor Boots Levine will officiate. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
