Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Dana's intellectual curiosity and academic prowess were evident from a young age. She graduated as valedictorian from Floresville High School in 1995, setting the stage for a remarkable journey of lifelong learning and teaching.
Dana's love for basketball, particularly the San Antonio Spurs, was unwavering. She was a devoted season ticket holder, often cheering on her beloved team along with her children.
However, above all else, Dana's true calling was in education. With a natural gift for imparting knowledge, she pursued a career in teaching. Her journey took her to institutions such as Our Lady of the Lake University, Purdue University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Columbia Southern University, and others, where she shared her expertise in finance with countless students.
Dana's passion for teaching was evident even in her earliest years. As child, she would gather neighborhood children, and with a chalkboard her parents bought her, offer impromptu lessons. This early spark ignited a flame that would burn brightly throughout her life, inspiring and influencing generations of students.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dana will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her students and colleagues. Her impact on the lives of those she taught extended far beyond the classroom, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dana was preceded in death by her infant children, Addison, Avery, and Steven Jr. She is survived by her sons, Tate, Banks, and Rush Leland and daughter, Poet Leland; mother and stepfather, Carol Petri and Drew Harbeson; father and stepmother, Kenneth and Sharron Petri; brother, Derek Petri; as well as numerous extended family members, a lifetime of friends, and the countless students whose lives she enriched through her passion for education. Though she may be gone, her spirit will continue to live on through the lives she touched and the knowledge she imparted.
A celebration of Dana's life will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, located at 16801 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, TX 78258, on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
