

Daniel G. Pelayo, age 63, went to be with his Father in heaven on July 30, 2011. He was a wonderful and generous husband and father. Daniel was born October 2, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, to Serafin and Nora Pelayo. After graduating from Burbank High School, Daniel married his high school sweetheart, Lula and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, earning numerous decorations and badges. After a tour in Vietnam, Daniel returned to San Antonio to start a family with his beautiful wife and began a career in Civil Service, ultimately retiring in 2005. Daniel enjoyed playing golf, collecting coins and knives, as well as gardening. He enjoyed traveling with his family, including annual trips to Las Vegas or Ruidoso. Daniel enjoyed barbequing at home with family and friends and playing poker. He also loved watching and reading westerns. While his daughters were in school, he was an active member of the Winston Churchill High School Band Parent’s Association, giving generously of himself and his time as he did in every other aspect of his life. Daniel is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lu, his daughter and her husband, Dani and John Rauschuber; his daughter and her husband, Kelli and Allen Diaz; his mother, Nora; his sister and her husband, Josie and Manuel Esquivel; his brother, Michael and his beloved miniature schnauzer, Princess. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Serafin. Memorial Services for Daniel G. Pelayo will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway. A Memorialization Service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, August 4, 2011 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road.
