Dear Ned and Sam, Both Pam and I were so sorry to hear about Danny's death. He was such a great young man, so very kind-hearted, humorous, a genuinely good human being. I honestly cannot remember anything but good things about Danny. The last time I spoke with him it seemed he had grown up a lot, become a thoughtful and mature man. Pam and I will be out of town this weekend - going to see Jessie at college for parents' weekend, so we will be unable to attend the services. Nat took the news very hard. He is in Norfolk, Virginia, in the Navy and will be coming home in late December to be married. Please know that our thoughts and sympathies are with you both. Danny told me that hanging out with me "is like blocking and recovering a punt in the opposing team's end zone when you were down 10-6 in the final minute of a game that clinches a first round bi-week." I never really knew what it meant, but it is an example not only of what a creative person he was, but also of the individual attention that he gave to each of his friends. Danny was the most honestly nice person I had the pleasure to spend time with. His is in my thoughts constantly. Danny isn't gone, he's just moved on - and everything he gave to me in friendship will never leave me.

Although I had only met Daniel and spoke with him one time while he was working at South Texas Dermatopathology, it was clear to me that he was an extremely intellegent and friendly young man. I am very sorry for his passing. May God be with the Stevens family and with Daniel.

Danny was a true friend. I loved him for a lot of things, but I will never forget that one of the first things he ever said to me was, "Hey, I'm from Texas, too!" We would often chat about Texas, whether bitching about the politics, comparing SoCal weather to that at home, or backing each other up when classmates started ragging on our state. I wish I could be there to say goodbye...

There are only good memories of Danny. My sincerest condolences and most heartfelt prayers for the family. ...and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

So many memories of Danny--birthday parties, Halloween trick-or-treating, overnighters for the little boys--I pray the memories outlive the pain of these weeks and months for you and for those of us who remember.
