

Watts. DJ John was born June 12, 1929 in Texarkana, Ark.
He traveled thru East Texas
until settling in San Antonio. DJ graduated from Thomas A. Edison Senior High School in
May 1947 and was the city champion pole vaulter.
John was a great trumpet player, and formed his first big band at the age of 15, The Johnny Watts Band and His Stars of Swing.
While in
High School he performed at the Bonner Studios, appeared on the Tommy Tucker show on
KTSA in 1947, was master of Ceremony on "Bobby Socks Brigade" which aired on Saturday
nights, and was first trumpet in the All City band.
Stationed briefly in Washington DC, he served in the Air Force and played in the band.
He organized the SkyLiners which played many dances in Enid, Okla. He became involved with the Masons; playing in the band then eventually serving as Worshipful Grand Master at Patterson Lodge, San Antonio, Texas.
At this time John was a father of three and did his coaching duties. Sports played a big part in his life. John loved to play golf, and won numerous golf tournaments through 2004.
He was employed with Graybar, Proctor Silex Appliances, Frederick A/C , sold insurance and managed rental properties.
John Watts leaves his loving wife, Shirley Wagele Watts, his children Linda D Watts, Darla Butler and her husband Don, Daniel John Watts III, his stepchildren Craig and Mike Brack, Sandra Howey, his sisters Betty Ruth Telford and Lorna Gail Stone, his brother Robert Watts and grandchildren
