Darrell was a great young man. He played for me at MacArthur in the late 80's. He and Chris Andrews were two of the best defensive players I coached at Mac. I went to mass today at Antonian High School and they mentioned about Darrell passing. I am very sorry to here about your loss.

Oh Darrell, it is hard for us to believe that you are gone. We all thought the world of you, you were such a sweet, kind, giving and very caring man. Sam and Jack are especially sad to hear of your passing. They liked you very, very much. I am sorry that we will not be able to hang out when we venture to San Antonio and that you will not be coming to any future family get together's at my folk's farm in Indiana. Darrell was a such a good friend to many. I first remember Darrell from YMCA football as little kids. I then had the privlage of becoming his friend in High School, he will truly be missed. Darrell you are with our heavenly father now where there are no more tears or sadness, or grief much better there than here. May your family be comforted in there time of grief. I met Darrell in 1999 at UIW, we became fast friends, we had the same humor. Darrell was one of the most caring individuals I have ever known. He was quick to lend an ear..or two. He was there for me during some pretty dark hours, I hope he knew how much I appreciated him. I used to laugh at him because to those who did not know him, he seemed serious, and at times he was, but he had a different side. A compassionate side. I had the opportunity to work with Darrell and his mother Alma for a brief time and have to say that he and his mother shared the same work ethic. He was passionate about his work and...... his cars. He was truly a friend like no other and I will miss our long conversations about everything or nothing at all. We shared a love of a special skit by Kids in the Hall, and I will always remember the phrase "my pen, my pen!" 
Darrell, I am truly blessed and honored to have been your friend. Words cannot describe how much I will miss you, I will always treasure our friendship.
