

David Goldberg passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10th, ten days shy of his 89th birthday. An all-around athlete and avid sports fan, Dave's strength and competitive spirit endured until his final days.
He was born on September 20, 1920, in Seguin, Texas, and grew up in Llano, TX and Bayonne, New Jersey. David proudly served his country during World War II as a radio operator with the 3260th Signal Service Co., participating in battles & campaigns in Sicily-Naples-Foggia; the Rhineland-Central Europe invasion, the Rome-Arno campaign, and the campaign in Southern France; earning the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Arrowhead for Army amphibious combat assault, and the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal.
Upon his return to San Antonio after the war, Dave met and married his pretty young bride, Sonja Liwschitz, in 1948.
Dave retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Nimitz Station, after 20 years of service.
David was pre-deceased by his parents and six of his siblings, and by his daughter Janet Goldberg Jimenez.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Sonja; his daughter, Adrienne Hollander and husband, Richard, of Houston; son-in-law, Edward Jimenez of San Antonio; grandchildren, Jennifer Jimenez, Ian Hollander, Jaclynn Jimenez, and Krystal Jimenez Cutler James; great-grandson, Hayden Jimenez; sister, Katie Wernick; sisters-in-law, Anne and Ruth Goldberg, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends whose love and devotion have brought a great deal of comfort for many years.
The Goldberg family would like to thank Dr. Cindy Johnston and Dave's caregivers at Regent Care Medical, NE Baptist Hosp, and Odyssey Hospice House for their exceptional and loving care of David.
Pallbearers are Robert, Bruce, and Stuart Goldberg; Tom Wernick, Irving Barenblat, and Fred Wartell. Honorary pallbearers are Steven & Andy Drogin, Brian Goldberg, and Jaime Jasso.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2009, 12:30 P.M. at AGUDAS ACHIM MEMORIAL GARDENS, 1727 AUSTIN HIGHWAY.
