David Judkins Kirk, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on July 25th, 2024. Born the youngest of four in Dover, Ohio in 1939 to Frances and Brenton Kirk, Dave grew up in a close-knit community that shaped his independent spirit. While he shared a family bond with his siblings, Brenton, Sr., and Ann Marsh, who preceded him in death, and Jane Jenkins, who resides in Colorado, Dave followed his independent spirit to forge his own path.
A natural leader and athlete, Dave excelled in high school, balancing academics with a passion for sports and extracurriculars. During his time at New Philadelphia High School, he was in Boys State, worked on the Delphian yearbook staff, and was a member of the golf, choir and swim teams. He was sharp-witted and was known to pull the occasional prank with friends.
While earning a degree in Industrial Management from Purdue University, Dave earned his pilot’s license, was a proud member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was a distinguished cadet in ROTC, allowing him to enter the US Air Force with a regular commission. His military service took him from Langley AFB to MacDill AFB in Florida, where he met Linda, the love of his life and wife of 58 years.A successful businessman with a sharp mind, Dave's career included 15 years at IBM followed by co-founding Star Data Systems. Dave later came out of retirement to join Linda in real estate.
Dave enjoyed a very active life with Linda, playing golf, tennis, skiing, bike riding trips, scuba diving and hosting dinners and wine tastings in their warm and welcoming home. He loved spending time in the mountains, going out with his lunch bunch, playing with his beloved border collies, and watching their children and grandchildren participate in various sporting events. He was also a member of University Methodist Church in San Antonio, The Dominion Country Club and Rotary Club.
Dave leaves behind his devoted and loving wife, Linda, their daughters, Kristine (Christopher), and Kara (Emily) along with grandchildren Scott, William, John, James, Sedley, Robert, Cole and Everett.
We celebrate Dave’s adventurous life and extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many who were of tremendous support to both Dave and Linda during his final years.
Services will be held at University Methodist Church on Wednesday, August 14th at 10:00 AM.
