

He was born to the late James and May Mathis on February 28, 1952, in Granite City, Illinois. David graduated from Granite City High School in 1972 and married Linda Sullivan on October 6, 1973. Prior to relocating to San Antonio, Texas in 1998 they lived in Granite City, Illinois.
David was a maintenance mechanic and machinist at Nestle Company in Granite City for 22 years.
He was a former member of Masonic Triple Lodge #835 in Granite City and a member of the Ainad Shriners in East St. Louis, Illinois. David belonged to the Krazy Klowns Unit of Ainad Temple and was Past President of the Ainad Temple Krazy Klowns and Past Secretary of the International Shrine Clown Association. While in Granite City, David volunteered for the Make a Wish Foundation and other organizations benefiting children.
His interests included clowning, balloon sculpture, and art. He was a talented artist and would often be found sketching and painting and then gifting family and friends with his works.
David is survived by his wife Linda Mathis of San Antonio, Texas and daughter Monica Mathis of Helotes, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents James and May Mathis of Dover, Tennessee, and his brother Junior Mathis of Tucson, Arizona.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in his memory.
