David Joseph Moore, known affectionately as Dave to his friends and family, passed away peacefully from natural causes on December 28, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 74. Born on May 6, 1950, in Charleston, West Virginia, Dave's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and the joy of simple pleasures.
Dave's early life in Charleston laid the foundation for his strong work ethic and commitment to his country. After completing an Associate degree in business at Kelly AFB, he embarked on a distinguished 23-year career with the United States Air Force, serving as a Ground Radio Repairman. His service was characterized by the same intelligence, courage, and analytical prowess that he would be known for throughout his life.
Upon retiring from the Air Force, Dave found joy in the company of his beloved wife, Sandra Moore, and their children. He was a devoted father to Jonathan Moore, Jamie Goodwin, Penelope Soto, and Cecelia Moore, and a loving grandfather to Cam Moore, Isaac Soto, Nicholas Soto, Nathan Soto, Isabel Soto, Jacob Soto, and Preston Soto. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He also held a special place in his heart for his great granddaughter Adalaya Soto and great grandson Ezekiel Soto , who became an integral part of the Moore family tapestry.
Dave's interests were as varied as they were passionate. Whether he was playing a round of golf, engaging in a spirited game of table tennis, or rolling a strike at the bowling alley, he was always up for a challenge. His musical talents were evident in his banjo and organ playing, and he enjoyed the strategic intricacies of card and board games like solitaire, scrabble, bridge, and cribbage. His competitive spirit led him to win many tournaments and trophies, but it was the camaraderie and friendships he formed that he valued most.
Those who knew Dave will remember him as a man who lived by the words of Winston Churchill, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." His resilience and determination were an inspiration to all, and his legacy is one of unwavering courage and quiet strength.
Dave's intelligence was not just a trait but a tool he used to navigate life's complexities. He approached problems with a calm and analytical mind, always seeking to understand the world around him. His courage was not the loud and brash kind, but a gentle fortitude that carried him through life's challenges with grace.
As we say farewell to Dave, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with love, laughter, and the satisfaction of a duty well done. He leaves behind a family that adores him, friends who respect him, and a world that is better for his presence. David Joseph Moore's story is one of triumph, not in grand gestures, but in the day-to-day moments that, when woven together, create the rich tapestry of a life fully lived
In our hearts, Dave will forever be remembered as the intelligent, courageous, and analytical man who loved his family, served his country with honor, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. As we honor his memory, we take solace in knowing that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us in the days to come.
