It has taken me a long time to write this, I guess because I was so shocked about David's sudden death. Though over the years, we had not physically kept in contact, it is amazing how many times I would think about David during the year. I keep going back to the late 1940's and 50's when we were not only cousins, but also best friends and real pals. At least a couple of times during the summers we would spend a week or so at Grandmother & Grandad's house in Gladewater, one built by our Grandad, Uncle Irby, Uncle Rex and my dad after the end of WWII. They would all work on it when time permitted. The Hogue clan was a very close family probably because of Grandmother. For me, those are great memories about a simple life of comradeship, adventures and just having young boy fun. After graduating from High School, by that time my family had been transferred to Colorado, we started a new phase in our lives and went in separate directions. But, I still remember that great time in my life and I will always think of David in those fond memories. Pat, you have my deepest sympathy. I know there is nothing that I can say that will take away the loss that your family is currently experiencing.I just wanted you to know that David attended Southgate Baptiste Church here in St. Crox and it was there that I met him. I did not know him very well, however his smiling face and friendly greeting manifested his love for God and others. May God give you strenght and grace during this challenging time. I understand your feelings as my own husband died suddenly, three years ago, at the same age as Dave. Believe me when I say, God will bring you through. You WILL be together again. I am glad to have known David, however briefly and pray the Lord's comfort on all who loved and miss him.

Please accept mine and Christy's sympathy. I didn't know David personally, but knew his mother , Father and brothers well. Christy is Kathy's sister so we have known Mark and Rex for many years.

My heartfelt sympathy for David's family and friends. I'm so thankful he was able to come to Raleigh and meet my children. It was wonderful to see him. He will be deeply missed. May your memories give you strength.

When David told me that he was leaving our island of St. Croix, I knew his quiet, friendly smile would be sorely missed. It was such a shock when Mark called me. David was like my rock, calling me every few days to help me through the long illness and death of my little brother, Leon. I have enjoyed and loved my cousins over the years. We were so close to each other growing up. David and I were hatching up a trip for his family to come to see us. I was so looking forward to it. Pat, you and the rest of the family will have to come down and visit like David wanted to do. I was planning it for Mardi Gras time...thought you would get a kick out of the parades and balls. I am so sorry David is gone. He was a great man and will be missed so much. Now, God has three great helpers with David, Leon, and Kyle. Our hearts break but we know they are in a better place. My prayers and support are with you and all of the family. Mom went into the emergency room last night with a slow heart beat. They are going to keep her several days in the hospital to see if they can regulate it...if not they will put in a pacemaker. Mom cannot be left alone or she will get out of bed and fall. She is still walking but, forgets that she needs the walker at 92 1/2 years. Her short term memory is bad but she is SO happy and sweet all the time. Love, Sondra and A.J.

We very much enjoyed the visit David, Pat, and Adrian had with us a couple of years ago here in Florida, and also remember fondly the wonderful hospitality David and Pat showed meConnie, when I stayed with them on some of my visits to S.A. He was a kind friend and we will miss him. Our hearts are with Pat and his family.
