David B. Sletten, known as Dave to his friends and family, entered into eternal peace on July 17, 2025, at the age of 58, after a courageous five year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on April 17, 1967, in Fargo, North Dakota, and adopted on June 15th, 1967, he departed from this life in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family. Dave's warmth and spirit left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
Throughout his life, Dave was a beacon of love and humor, often the source of laughter and joy at family gatherings. He is survived by the love of his life, Josie A. Sletten, and their children: Julissa Martinez, Liam B. Sletten, Leif T. Sletten, Anissa Martinez, Shandi M. Holtman (Richard), Brice K. Sletten (Karen), and Vanessa M. Macias (Abel). Dave's legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Isela L. Macias, Isabella J. Macias, David D. Plante, Bailey R. Sletten, Kaylie G. Macias, and Analie F. Macias.
He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Alvern Reinhold (Rick), Mary Brott, Suzie Clausen (Steve), Sonja LaRoque (Mic), Martha Petsinger (Duane), Christian Sletten (Heaven), Matthew Sletten (Nichole). Also survived by Lonnie Christiansen, JuDee Amble, Shelley Lauer, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother Anna Marie Sletten, father Delmar B. Sletten, step mother Janet Menge, brother Nicholas Sletten, and grandparents.
Growing up in Larimore, North Dakota, he was raised with a strong work ethic shaped by life on the farm. When not working on the family farm he cherished time together at the family cabin on Upper Red Lake in Minnesota, where he enjoyed fishing, swimming, and making memories around the campfire. Those experiences-both the hard work at the farm and family time at the lake-deeply influenced the values he carried throughout his life.
Dave's life was a testament to his strong Christian faith, as a member of Zion Lutheran Church, his love for his country, and his unwavering commitment to his family. Dave dedicated 20 years of service to the United States Air Force, retiring in 2005 as a Master Sergeant. His patriotism was matched by his professional dedication; he spent another 20 years at Frost Bank, as a Credit Analyst Supervisor, where he was loved by his Frost Family and known for his integrity, leadership, and dedication. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix in 2014.
Dave's interests were as rich and varied as his personality. He was passionate about music, finding solace and joy in its melodies. His love for traveling led him to explore the Texas hill country, where he indulged in wine tasting and discovered new vineyards. A true Vikings Football fan, Dave never missed a game and enjoyed cheering on his favorite team. He was also an avid griller, often found smoking ribs or searing steaks while surrounded by family. He cherished every moment, especially during swimming outings, game nights, campfires, hikes, and bike rides.
After work, he found true joy in spending time with his beloved dogs—playing, rolling around in the yard, and sharing the kind of unconditional love that only pets can bring. His two labradors, Zoey and Zack, were his constant companions, joining him for yard work or simply lounging in the sun.
Dave's journey through life was marked by his resilience and his ability to face challenges head-on. He approached his battle with cancer with the same courage and positivity that characterized his entire life. His legacy is not only in the lives he touched but also in the example he set of living each day with purpose and joy.
As we bid farewell to Dave, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life full of love, laughter, and the courage to be authentically oneself. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Dave's memory will forever be a guiding light to his family, friends, and all who cherished him.
