She was born January 4, 1943 in Stockton, California to Albert B. Haynes and Ann C. Ghidossi. At a young age, Deanna moved to Oregon and it was there that she completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon.
In 1987, she moved to San Antonio to help launch the Fungus Testing Laboratory, within the Department of Pathology, at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Shortly thereafter, Deanna earned her Masters and Doctorate degrees in the Science and Management related fields. She was a professor, author and lecturer presenting all over the world. One little known fact of Deanna's life was that she discovered a new bacteria and was honored by having it named after her.
She was a devout Catholic, beloved parishioner and passionate volunteer at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (SEAS) Catholic Church. Deanna had a servant's heart and always thought of others first. She was blessed with a multitude of talents including music (she made the piano sing), gardening (she made the flowers bloom), and decorating (she made the house a home). She was a loving mother to her daughter and a doting grandmother to her two granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Deanna is survived by her daughter, Shelby A. Najvar and husband Glen; granddaughters, Kendall A. Najvar and Hannah J. Najvar; Beverly "Bev" Haynes, Albert's second wife; and her loving friends and family of the SEAS community which she held so dear.
