August 23, 1957 – February 29, 2016
After a 4-year war against multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer), Debbi Kilgore peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 29, 2016. She was only 58 years of age. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Debbi's family also lived in Chatham, NJ; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Atlanta, Georgia. In 1975, on her first day of classes at Southern Methodist University, she met the man who would become her husband, Bob Kilgore. They married in 1978. Upon her graduation that December she parlayed her proficiency in Spanish into a job with the International Banking Department at First National Bank of Dallas. She supported Bob through SMU Law School. After his graduation they moved to San Antonio in 1982 to raise their family. Debbi did not return to the business world, instead focusing her time, love, and attention to Bob's career and their growing family. She eagerly took on leadership roles in a variety of organizations, including San Antonio Young Lawyer's Wives, San Antonio Symphony Junior League, Coker Elementary PTA, Bradley Middle School PTA, and Churchill H.S. Sprit Club. In later years she was an active member of the Thirsty Girls Bible study at Alamo Heights U.M.C., and she completed the Bethel Bible Study series at San Pedro Presbyterian Church. She engaged all who met her with smiling eyes. Debbi said, "All I ever wanted to be was a mother." As with everything else in life, she excelled in this, her true calling and passion. Debbi is survived by her mother, Anne Eberenz Robertson and her brother, Robert David Cadenhead (both of Austin); her husband, Bob Kilgore; the pride and joy of her life, her children (and grandchildren, to whom she was known as "Mimi"): Jennifer Casey and husband, Curtis (George and Audrey), Erin Heinze and her husband, Kevin (Wyatt and Hank), and Andrew Kilgore and his wife, Celeste; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and those lucky enough to know her and call her "friend." The family would like to recognize and thank Debbi's medical team (Dr. Jatin Shah at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Scott Ulmer at START Center, and Dr. Paul Shaughnessy at the Texas Transplant Institute) and her caregivers at VITAS Hospice and Nix Health Private Care (particularly Cat Norton).
