Dee, née Marion Dee Shellard, was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her family moved to San Antonio, Texas, when she was 10 years old and she grew up on Adams Street in King William. She was a member of the Purple Jackets and graduated from Brackenridge High School. Dee began her college education at Southwest Texas State. Despite the interruption that occurred when her husband's career promotion moved them across the country, she continued to take college courses whenever possible while raising three children as well as developing her own career in Public Relations. Her skills in creating press releases, brochures, and otherwise getting an organization's name and news publicized, benefitted USAA, the San Antonio Symphony, Cancer Therapy and Research Center, and Southwest Oncology Group.
Dee's career and family were two important facets of her life, over the years she also engaged in many other hobbies and activities. She enjoyed photography and even developed her own 35mm photos. She was the first in our family to have a digital camera. She made stained glass and created paper art. She handmade a beautiful smocked dress that has been handed down through two generations so far. She made every holiday, birthday and event special with delicious cakes, decorations, party favors and whatever would make an occasion shine!
Retirement allowed her to pursue artistic skills related to sewing and needlework. Dee's family and friends will always remember her through her gifts of quilts, wall hangings, table runners, and many other beautiful one-of-a-kind creations. She had a giving heart which fully occupied her retirement. Even in the last week of her life she was working on a St. Patrick's Day project to spread a little happiness to her fellow residents and the staff at her care facility.
Dee is survived by her sister Ann Shellard, daughter Deborah and son-in-law George Cabaza, son Carter and daughter-in-law Rachel Boyer, son Ted and daughter-in-law Lorna Boyer, grandchildren Melanie Quinn, Caroline Boyer, Sophia Cabaza, Theron Boyer, Hannah Rose Boyer, Hannah Faith Swann, and great granddaughter Aeri Star Konderla. She will be dearly missed; her love, wisdom, encouragement, and support have enhanced all of our lives.
