

Dennis Sean O'Malley of San Antonio, died Wednesday, December 4th, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Carol Lee O'Malley; his daughter, Aimée Steiner and her husband, Pinckney Steiner; his twin sons, Harris and Edward O'Malley; his brother, Charles Horton O'Malley; nephews, Mark and Sean O'Malley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Joseph Ill O'Malley and Janet Dalzell O'Malley. Dennis Sean O'Malley was a native of Bay Shore, New York. Mr. O'Malley graduated from Brown University in 1961 and began his career in the insurance business. From 1965 to 1978, he worked for Dascit/White & Winston, the largest life insurance agency in the country, where he began as a Supervisor and became President of that firm. In 1978, Mr. O'Malley moved to San Antonio to assume the responsibilities of President and CEO of Halo Distributing Company. He has been awarded the Optimist Club "Man of the Year" as well as the American Marketing Association's "Marketing Man of the Year", and "Philanthropist of the Year". Mr. O'Malley is one of the founders of the San Antonio Parks Foundation. In addition, he served on the Boards of the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Bexar County Hospital District, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the International Bank of Commerce, the San Antonio Economic Development Council, the Winston School, Keep San Antonio Beautiful and the San Antonio Spurs Foundation. Mr. O'Malley served as Chairman of the Alamo Bowl, the Big 12 Championship and Multiple Sclerosis. He served as Treasurer of Wholesale Beer Distributors of Texas and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the University of the Incarnate Word University. The University of the Incarnate Word recently named the Dennis O'Malley Amphitheatre in the Gorman Business and Education Center in his honor in recognition of his years of service to the University. Under his chairmanship, The San Antonio Parks Foundation raised over $1, 000, 000. These funds benefited Rosedale Park, San Pedro park, Travis Park, the Sunken Gardens, Walker Ranch Historic Landmark Park and Milam Park. During 1985-1986, Mr. O'Malley reigned over San Antonio's Fiesta Celebration as the 37th El Rey Feo The Ugly King. Mr. O'Malley raised $90, 000 to benefit the LULAC Council #2 Scholarship Fund. He is a member of El Consejo Real De Reyes Feos Anteriores, Inc., an organization which promotes higher education for disadvantaged youth through LULAC programs. Mr. O'Malley was President and Owner of Miller Brewing Company HALO. Mr O'Malley sold Halo Distributing Company in April 1998. Growing up on Long Island's Great South Bay, Mr. O'Malley was an avid sailor. He was National Champion of his class for five consecutive years. In recent years, he enjoyed his summer in Newport, RI. He spent his retirement competing on the links. He was a member of the New York Yacht Club, the Argyle, Club Giraud, Horeshoe Bay Golf and Resort, Sonterra Golf and Country Club and Wanumetonomy Golf and Country Club in Newport, RI.
