I had the great pleasure of getting to know Derrick while I was doing some electrical work on his dream home. Derrick was a very vibrant and warm soul. I don't ever remember Derrick being upset at anything cause he was always too busy smiling. I remember asking him how he did it to never show when he was having a bad day and he told me that life itself was too serious so to get thru it was by having a good sense of humor and learning to be humble. I now live by that. Derrick became a good friend and called me back on several occasions to do more Electrical work. I valued the time I got to work there cause we always had something to talk about. No matter how upside down my day was going, by the time I left his house, my stress was always lighter. I sure am going to miss our talks but he will never be forgotten.  It was a great pleasure to have known Derrick. I know he will definitely be going to a good place because that's where good hearts go. His was Gold. May he rest in peace and may God watch over him.

Even though I’ve worked at GM for only a short period of time so far, I knew Derrick was someone I could always rely on for help when it was needed. I remember how, no matter how stressful things were, he would take a moment to talk about life outside of work to get to know you better. He helped ease and relax those around him with his knowledge and sense of humor.
He has been an invaluable teammate and it is hard to believe that he is no longer with us.

I’ve had the pleasure to know and work with Derrick for almost 5 years.  He is one of the smartest people I have ever met, a true innovator.  He always had great ideas on every topic and was always willing to help anyone who needed it, no matter how busy he was. Derrick was invaluable to our team in so many ways.  He wanted to take every problem and fix it, he wanted to take every tedious task and create a better way to address it.  I know that I will think of him every time I open and use the tools that he created to make our team’s job easier, to create more accuracy for our customers.  We use these tools almost every day and couldn’t be as effective without them.   His sense of humor and Always Cheerful attitude were just the Best.  He really made the world a better place.

Spending time with Derrick the last few years in Austin was a treasure I will hold dear forever.  When we reconnected, he told me he remembered when we were young and how I had a record player that I insisted he check out. I didn't remember the moment, but his memory of the moment filled my heart with joy. That is Derrick, full of joy that overflowed to others. My sympathies to Melinda, Eric and Madison; my Aunt Lilian; and, all my cousins.  Prayers during this time. I love You! Michelle 

I had the pleasure of working with Derrick. Despite being from Brazil, distance was not a problem for this working relationship that turned into a friendship because Derrick was always a kind, gentle, helpful and always very cheerful person. It was a great honor my friend, that God can comfort all your family that you find the deserved rest and divine reward for all the goodness you left behind. Thank you very much on behalf of the entire GM Maintenance team in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador.

I'm so sorry to hear of Derrick's passing. He was such a kind, good hearted person! Although I had not seen him for 10 years, the picture of him just radiates the warmth and caring in his soul--so I know he never changed. Rest in peace, Derrick.

Derrick, your laughter, your desire to always help and make things work better were a joy to be around. Your family is in the prayers of your friends and coworkers. I loved the conversations we had while waiting for meetings. You were always a bright light in the day and brought an energy to those who worked with you. It was a pleasure to have known you. For your family and friends, condolences and prayers in this time of memory. Thank you for sharing him with us.

My name is Luciano and I work at General Motors in Brazil, this is why I know Derrick. There are no words that I can say that can alleviate the emptiness that a loved one leaves at their departure. I wish you a lot of strength and stay with God.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Derrick was and is one of a kind. He showed me how to work hard and have fun at the same time. He was one of the most gifted and creative people I've ever met. We laughed everyday when we worked together at Edvance. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

A terrible loss. Derrick and the family are in my prayers.  Derrick was so eager to help, and had so much ability.  He was also quick to laugh and fun to work with.  I can't believe he is gone.  He will be sorely missed

Derrick and I worked together over the last 6 months at General Motors.
Derrick is one of the SMARTEST individuals I know, and he helped me in so many ways that I can't thank him enough for all he's done!
We spent many hours together working on so many different projects together and I've already forgotten half of everything he knows.
I'll never forget his willingness to help anyone in need no matter the time of day or night you needed him; he was always there! 
I will miss him dearly as I know many of us at GM already do. 
I offer prayers to all the family and friends that had the AWESOME blessing of knowing who he is and the precious memories we all now can share.
