

Desmond Mercado, affectionately known as Alex, Des, or Dezi, passed away on January 16, 2025, in his beloved hometown of San Antonio, Texas at the age of 50. Born on October 23, 1974, Des was a proud son of the city and a cherished member of the community.
Desmond was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Alfonso Marin Sr. and Juanita Marin. He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Mendy Mercado; and seven children, Gabriel, Maribelle, Robyn, Landon, Patience, Desiree and Krystina. He is also survived by his mother, Irene Tovar; and four siblings, Veronica Tovar, Danyll Mercado, Jeanette Hernandez, and Jacqueline Garcia. In addition are his sister and brother-in-law Ross and Mandy Lundquist, and Father-in- law and mother-in-law Ray and Carolyn Shannon. As well as several aunts, uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Des was a proud member of his community. A devoted man of God, Desmond found his purpose in service, both within his family and to others. He was a faithful volunteer and Leader at Community Bible Church (CBC), where he dedicated much of his time guiding and inspiring those around him. His deep faith and generosity of spirit touched the hearts of all who knew him, as he consistently gave of himself to make the world a better place.
A man of many talents--- truly a jack of all trades. His boundless curiosity and passion for learning led him to teach himself a wide range of skills from wood crafting, mechanics, sewing, crafting, tattooing, and cooking. He could fix anything in or out of the home, no matter the task. Desmond could master it with creativity, precision, and an infectious enthusiasm. His handiwork was always a testament to his dedication and attention to detail, and his cooking was legendary among family and friends, who will always remember the warmth and love he put into every meal.
In addition to his many talents, he was known for his unwavering kindness, and ability to make everyone feel like family. He had a way of connecting with others that left a lasting impression, and he made an impact in every life he touched. He could make anyone laugh with his wit and antics.
His legacy of faith, service and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. Although gone from this earth, his spirit and lessons he imparted will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on January 30, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Community Bible Church, 2477 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio.
