At almost 20 years to the date of your passing, I can't even type this out without bawling like a baby - there's no way I could have faced this condolence page back then. That said, I am grateful for those who took the time to record their memories and thoughts about you, Dad, because nothing could be MORE true. You will always REMAIN the GOAT -- the self-styled "Daddini the Greatest", who made us "Killer Diller Deluxe" breakfast tacos every weekend that we were fortunate enough to be in your presence. 

Every single bar and restaurant within a 100 mile radius knew our names, and how great we were, because you would never let them forget it -- it's almost as if you knew how short your time on earth was going to be. Just 50 short years, a vapor of an incredible life -- then gone, one day to the next. 

Not a single day has passed in the 20 years following on from your homegoing to Heaven in which I have not thought about you, and on some days in particular, grieved your earthly loss to my very core. Simply saying, "I love you and I miss you, Dad" doesn't even come close to the feeling I will always hold in the deepest recesses of my heart for you. 

I don't know how much longer the good Lord has for me here on this earth, and God knows I've been through hell and back a few times over since you've been gone but I want to know how grateful I am to you, and FOR your life. Thank you for convincing my mother to marry you on December 22nd, 1978. Although I always believed that Carl should've been your firstborn, I'm grateful that instead,  I was the first show of your strength,  and thank you for raising me, each and every moment that we had together, with that understanding. 

Thank you for your intense and overwhelming love and affirmation for me. It is something I've never felt, before or since your earthly passing, and it was so powerful, that in the still of the day, when I quiet my mind and heart, I can still feel because I carry you with me -- forever and a day. <3

I hired Devan to work with us in the Electrical Engineering group at The Dee Howard Company 15 years ago. He quickly became an integral part of our group and worked his way up the ladder in the company. He was both a great co-worker and became a good friend during those years. We played on several volleyball teams together and enjoyed many good times. We joined our first league in the middle of winter and Devan coined the team name ? ?Mud Dogs?. To this day, this name has special meaning. We even named our computer server Mug Dog. In this way we will always remember him and smile. Bob Hurley

Devan, my brother, meant SO much to me. When I was a little girl I looked up to him - my big brother and I was so lucky that he was MINE!! I just adored him! When I got a little older and we became more like friends he was there for me if I needed him, offered me great advice and he counted on me to look in on our parents. He loved my son. I'm heartbroken and I miss him so much. I can barely stand the thoughts of him being gone. He and my dad are together now and that's a nice feeling, but it sure doesn't make it any easier. Isabel, I love you so much and I thank you from the very bottom of my soul for taking such good care of my brother. Because of you - he was with us as long as he was. Devan was great man.. a loving father.. and a good friend. He meant alot to me and I will never forget him or the wonderful memories I have. My condolences to the family and my regrets that i cannot attend the service or be there at this time.

Devan was one of a kind. A very loving and caring individual full of life who will be greatly missed as a friend, and co-worker. I remember back in the early 90's getting together with Devan, my husband and I. He had a tie on that had caught my eye. He said it was a very exspensive tie and I would never had one because I would never be able to afford one such as it. As a joke I put in the pocket of my jacket. We later parted for the evening and the next day my husband called to tell him we had a really nice exspensive tie, his tie. We never did get back togther to give him the tie back. His wife said it messed up his entire wardrobe, because it all centered around the tie. It was about a year later when he finally got his tie back. I will always remeber him for his sense of humor and his ability to be a bit of a joker. I will truly miss you my friend.

Dearest Isabel-My heart goes out to you in your loss of Devan-He was such a dear person-I really enjoyed spending time with the two of you last December at Becky's home but wish that it could have been for an occassion other than Devan losing his father-Now they are together and you and Becky have your fond memories to help you through this trying time-I have been there and the Bishops were there for me-My thoughts and prayers arre with you and the family-I'll go to visit with Becky when she gets back home-Hope to see you when you come to Charlotte- Love and Prayers,

My deepest condolences to Devan's family. I met Devan almost 20 years ago and remained friends with him over the years. I am very saddened by his passing. I will always remember him for his great spirit and gentle soul. I will miss him. May he rest in peace.

It was a pleasure to have known you the short years I did. Had a great time playing golf with our old team you, Bob,Buck, and myself. Kasey and I will truly miss Devan. I lost track of him and his family in recent years, but never forgot him. Last time I met with him was at his aircraft firm out at San Antonio Intl Airport. 
Devan and I go way back to Brooks AFB 1980's when he and I worked for the Air Force Tempest program. He left Air Force active duty as a Captain before the organization moved back to Security Hill at Lackland AFB. We had many good times together and worked thru many tough issues together in our jobs. He and I were section supervisors after he was transferred from positon of test team leader. We spent many hours working on the road TDY doing security work for Air Intelligence Agency. He was an outstanding engineer and a very loving and caring individual, the kind that would give his shirt off his back for friends/family. I admired his great spirit and love of life. He dearly loved his children, and I was instrumental in convincing him to get out a job that required extensive travel, and go into private industry as an engineer where his talents would be truly appreciated. He worked for a mutual friend of ours out in Thousand Oaks CA as their Systemware Inc San Antonio representative for a while after leaving the Air Force. He always had a great sense of humor, a free spirit who believed in his God, and who had a lot of positive influence on all who came into contact with him. A party or social gathering was not lively and fun unless he was there. My heart goes out to his children, wife and family. Sincerely, Tom and Kasey Heinrich

Heidi, Devan's daughter, and I are good friends; meeting her in London, we got to know eachother fairly well. I just wish to say that if she in any way represents what kind of man Devan was, then he is leaving a legacy of love, of support and of a wonderful human being. Her spirit and love of life and faithful following of Jesus will further his legacy and I feel incredibly proud to have met her. My condolences from the deepest portions of my heart and a prayer, for the heavenly soul of Devan, who showed his love of his children through their character. God bless.

Devan is a man who I remember as being extremely funny. His carefree nature made him a man that was very easy to get along with and easy to become comfortable around. For although I was not a family member I felt I was among one when in his presence. I write this with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes, but with extreme elation that he is at peace. Mr. Bishop, as I always addressed him as, is a man with whom life was made better having met him. Memories by the pool at his home on Quill street will be with me always. His comical comments about the choice of music being played by his daughter and niece on a warm summer night and stories of how his daughter tried to explain how her engine blew out will always bring a smile to my face. Mr.Bishop had a way of captivating a room with his discourse through a unique way of comedy and charisma that demanded respect but also a smile. Mr.Bishop may you be at peace, sir.

To our friend who always made us laugh smile. He will always be remembered in our thoughts and especially in our hearts. Our prayers go out to his kids and Isabel as they grieve their loss. We will miss him very much. Love, Your friends always Charlie and Mary

I noticed in the Charlotte Observer this morning that Devan had passed away. Devan's father was my first cousin. My mother Hilary, who died in July, and Devan's grandfather were sister and brother. I am so sorry for your loss. Best wishes to all. Al Waddell
