It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Don Lowell Josephson, who left us on April 28, 2025, at the age of 82. Hе was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by the many lives he impacted.
Don was born on February 22, 1943, in Elgin, Texas, to Alton Theodore Josephson and Gladys Anna Belle (Edling) Josephson. He graduated from Elgin High School in Elgin, Texas, with great success as a football and baseball player. He continued his education and athletics at Texas Lutheran College, where he met the love of his life, Marian Gail (Bullock) Josephson, from San Antonio, Texas. Don and Gail were married on September 26, 1965, in San Antonio. Their marriage was always full of love, laughter, and loyalty.
Don lived to serve and help others. He initially coached high school football before finding a long career in insurance, making everlasting friendships throughout his life. His foremost accomplishments were enriching the congregation at Zion Lutheran Church as a member of the Call Committee, Building Committee, and serving on the Church Council. Most recently, he spent countless hours leading the development of the Family Life Center at Zion. He loved his church and wanted to help make it an amazing place of worship. Don also participated in several charity-based golf tournaments for local groups, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Don found joy in making his home a welcome retreat by keeping the best lawn on the block. He cared for his plants and backyard critters by providing the love and care they needed to flourish. He was also quite the BBQ king, often hosting loved ones for a great meal. Don also loved his loyal, furry companions Mr. Truffles and Cookie. Most important to him were his faith, friends, and his family.
Don was often described as generous, gracious, and happy. He had an over-the-top sense of humor that brought much joy to those around him. His lighthearted spirit and ability to make people laugh will be deeply missed and forever remembered. He and Gail shared a passion for travel, spending much of their time exploring the world on cruises with dear friends. Don also took great pride in lending a helping hand to anyone in need, always offering his time and wisdom with a generous heart. His kindness, dedication, and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Theodore Josephson and Gladys Anna Belle (Edling) Josephson; wife, Marian Gail (Bullock) Josephson; and brother, Gayland Alton Josephson.
Don is survived by his children, Scott Josephson with his wife, Stacia, and Stephanie LeClair with her husband, John; his grandchildren, Austin Josephson, Zachary Josephson, Alison LeClair, and Jeremy LeClair; and many other loving family members and friends.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes, 9944 Leslie, San Antonio, Texas 78254, on Wednesday, May 7, at 11 am. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Don's life and share memories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the "Building Fund" at Zion Lutheran Church (https://secure.myvanco.com/YJYN/campaign/C-YTT9) in Don's memory.
Scott and Stephanie would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at The Cottages at Danny Kaye for the amazing care given to Don over the past year of his life.
Rest in peace, Don Lowell Josephson. You will forever be in our hearts.
