Trey was a good friend to me when I was younger. I remember during our middle school years we would spend time skateboarding in his backyard and eating breakfast tacos with his family. Later on in life I had reached out to him because I was struggling, and I knew he was a smart guy that knew a lot about recovery. He offered me some solid advice that I continue to use today (10 years later) in my recovery. I'm deeply saddened to hear about his passing, but I know that he is thriving in Heaven!

Robbie and I had just met Trey. But even in this short amount of time we realized how kind, smart and special he was. We would have loved to get to know him better and to spend more time with him.

In these moments of loss, words are useless. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to the entire Leonard and Scott families. 

No one can prepare you for a loss; it comes like a swift wind. But take comfort in knowing that Trey is now resting in the arms of our Lord and his soul is at peace. 

My prayer is that God will bless you, give you courage to face the  days ahead and ease your pain.

Remember the good times because they will bring you comfort and Trey will live on forever in these memories.

Before Trey started school at 6, we spent a lot of time together.  He loved coming up to the ranch at Blanco.

We would camp out on the creek - about 200 yards from the house (he thought we were miles from any civilization) .  We would roast hot dogs over a campfire and wrap them in flour tortillas with bar b que sauce..  We would sing “you are my sunshine” and “I’m an old cowhand” by the campfire. 

He liked riding on the ATV.  He would ride in front of me and we would ride all over the ranch. Often he would fall asleep after riding and singing.  He would go limp and I would have to grab him and head back to the house. 

He liked swimming in the lake,  but enjoyed even more the area of the creek that was about a foot deep and 12 feet wide.  Here he had made a 1 foot high dam with rocks.  We would spend hours in “Trey’s swimming hole”, until our fingers were like prunes. 

When about 3, he caught his first fish in the lake - a sunfish.  He was so proud.  He exclaimed, “look I caught it all by myself”.   He was very excited. 

In later years after he started school,  it was a pleasure to watch him play little league baseball and basketball.  He was a pretty good basketball player.   We went to a Spurs playoff game that turned out to be the Memorial Day Miracle when Sean Elliott made the game winning basket – right in front of our seats.  He was sooo  excited ! 

I will miss him tremendously - His smile, good looks and great sense of humor will always be remembered.

Lisa and family-I never met Trey but I  just wanted to say how sorry I am about the Loss of  your beautiful Son. My heart hurts for you! Sending my deepest sympathy and prayers for comfort, strength and peace in the days ahead. Hold tight to the wonderful memories you have as it will bring you some joy to think about the great times you shared.


Trey was an amazing person. He was an extremely motivated guy who had lived his life full of ambition. He overcame struggles and never quit fighting. Everybody loved him. He was someone to turn to for your problems and was always there for the ones he cared for, which was many. The best are taken too soon, and this was definitely true in this case. You will be missed Trey. 

Trey was an exceptional young man.  He was always ready to say something complimentary to his Aunt Shirley.  We were buddies in many different ways and it was always a fun time when he came to visit me in Austin.  I liked his honesty, empathy, and helpful attitude.  

We are all better people for having had Trey in our family.  I know I am more sensitive,  patient, and thoughtful because of him.  We will miss you so much, Trey-man!

Trey was the first grandchild.  We spent a lot of time together when he was growing up.  I have so many wonderful memories of those days that I will always cherish.  When he was very small, before I would put him to bed, I would sit in a chair and rock him, and together we would name everyone that loved him.   If I forgot to name one person, he always knew who it was, and he would remind me.  He always has and always will have a special place in my heart.  I wish I could have one of your hugs Trey, I'm really going to miss them.  I love and miss you so much.

I met Trey when we visited my Son at B2B. Trey was my Son's "Buddy" for the Family weekend. Trey was such a Joy! We went to the bookstore, movies, shared meals, and we all had some really good genuine conversations. Trey recommended both my sons read the same book (The Catcher In The Rye) long distance, then have their weekly phone call to discuss it. I thought that was a beautiful & thoughtful idea. Trey had truly left a wonderful impact on us that weekend. Trey will forever be remembered. 

Trey was a big part of my story for the past year and a half and I am super thankful for everyday I got to share with him. Gonna miss the hell out of you bro. Will see you again one day<3

I met Trey in Flagstaff. I am a Mom of B2B. I saw the changes in him all 3 times I met him. He was awesome at hacky-sack and had a great sense of humor! Loved when I got to meet his beloved 4-legged family member in April when visiting. My heart is broken for his family. Extra prayers for healing!

Trey was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Garza Leonard. He is survived by his parents, Donald and Lisa Leonard; sister, Brianna Leonard, and her fiancé, Nick Kelly. Grandparents are Gary and Judy Scott and Joe and Cherrie Steen. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins
