

Dorothy was born April 12, 1921, in Davis Creek, AL. She was the fifth of seven children born to William Maddox and Josephine South Maddox. She grew up in Fayette, AL and graduated from Fayette County High School.
Dorothy married James William Cannon on November 14, 1942, in Irondale, AL. Dorothy and James raised three sons and she partnered with James in a distinguished military and government civilian career that included service in both the US Army and the US Air Force, starting with World War II and later assignments to various military bases, including locations in College Station, England, Vance AFB in Oklahoma, and both Randolph AFB and Kelly AFB in San Antonio. Dorothy worked as a secretary at Randolph Elementary School and enjoyed playing bridge and reading.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband James of 47 years, as well as both of her parents.
She is survived by her sister, Sadie Maddox Fowler; and her three sons, James Cannon, Jr. and wife Norma, Bruce Cannon and wife Susan, and Robert Cannon and wife Deborah. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Bruce Cannon and wife Erin, Laura Cannon Collins and husband Matt, Rachel Cannon, and Sarah Cannon and well as four great-grandchildren, Hunter Collins, Harrison Collins, Evangeline Cannon, and Beatrice Cannon.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity in Dorothy's memory.
