Dorothy M. Gilpin

Born February 12, 1926 in Lytton Springs, Texas to Nellie and George Lackey. She became a life long resident of San Antonio, Texas. She graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1944 and went on to start her career at Lackland Air Force Base before marrying the love of her life, William “Bill” J. Gilpin Sr. in 1957. When she and Bill had their two children, her career changed to full time Mom.

She was an active member of the Houston Terrace Baptist Church and Southeast Baptist Church for many years. She was a devoted mother and dedicated PTA volunteer, always willing to lend a helping hand. Although it was not the cause of her passing, Dorothy was also an 18 year breast cancer survivor.

She loved and cherished her grandchildren. She loved spending time with family and friends and going to the lake with her beloved sister, Georgette and her family. She loved camping with her husband and they spent many happy miles traveling in their RV.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her six brothers and sisters, and her daughter-in-law, Bebe Gilpin.

She is survived by her son, William “Billy” Gilpin Jr. and his wife Kelly of New Braunfels, Texas; her daughter, Elizabeth Bobbitt and her husband, Rodney of Friendswood, Texas; her granddaughter Lauren Calvert; her grandson Trent Bobbitt, and her many nephews and nieces.
