If Dorothy Weynand had been like anyone else, this obit would read differently but she wasn't, so it won't. Dorothy, Dottie, Dee however you knew her was an original. She touched many lives in her 83 years and was beloved by all she touched. She was your favorite aunt, best friend, fun-loving sister, sweet landlady, spunky coworker, generous volunteer and above all, devoted mother. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her children.
Born Dorothy Lee Fielder in Carrizo Springs, TX on February 3, 1927, she grew up quickly as did all of her surviving siblings. Times were tough and due to her mother's illness, her family was split up to survive. She finished high school in Sierra Blanca, class of '44 then came back to San Antonio where she met and married Arthur Clarence Weynand in 1947. In the next four years, they had three children: George, Lynne and Diana. Dorothy quickly immersed herself in raising her family. She made clothes, curtains and meals. When the kids were teenagers, she began working at the TX Highway Dept., now called TXDOT. Her career there lasted 27 years. During that time, Dorothy got involved in TTFCU, the Retirees and other groups. She was generous with her time and talents and remained involved long after her own retirement. She was creative, expressive, and could beat you at tennis. If you were a friend of Dorothy's, you were part of her family. She also loved to travel, from the annual trip to Vegas to the Texas coast, Europe, California and Montana, which she called her 'Trip to Heaven.'
Dorothy is survived by her three children: son, George Weynand and wife, Vicki of San Antonio; daughter, Lynne Weynand and partner, Marilyn of Austin; and daughter, Diana Weynand of Los Angeles; grandson, Sam Rowdy Weynand and his daughter, Reese; sisters: Mary Bloxham and Jewel Fox; and numerous dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Dr. Richard Clemons, Drs. Kirsten and Martin Smith, and Dr. Larry Davis for the warmth of their professional attention, and to the wonderful caregivers at Morningside Manor, Methodist Hospital and VITAS Hospice.
