

Born to Clarence Rufus Wilson and Cynthia Elizabeth Wilkinson on July 25, 1930, in Evanston, Illinois, Douglas lived a unique, storybook life marked by his travels and passion for education.
He graduated from Evanston Township High School (ETHS) in 1947 and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University in 1959 before pursuing his career in education.
He married Betty Jean White in 1962, and together, they raised three children. While starting his new family, he expanded his career by participating in the Teacher Education in East Africa (TEEA) program from 1964-1970 in Kampala, Uganda, where he trained students on how to become primary teachers at Shimoni Teachers Training College. He loved photography, golf, and safaris which offered him and his family life-changing experiences before returning to the U.S.
He continued his passion for teaching students in math and science at the San Antonio Independent School district (SAISD) for 34 years until he retired in 1993. He remained active and enjoyed a fulfilling retirement by traveling and spending time with his friends and family.
Douglas was preceded in death by his lovely wife Betty, his sister Jennie Wilson, and brothers, Ed Wilson, Clarence Wilson and Ralph Wilson.
He is survived by his loving brother Paul Wilson, his much-loved children, Derrick Wilson (son), Rhonda Trimble (daughter), Kevin Wilson (son) and his adored granddaughter, Robyn Wilson.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 2024, 11:00 am at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218. A reception will follow at the same location. A minister will officiate the ceremony.
