Dr. Edward A. Wolf, Jr. M.D died on May 19, 2021, after several years of fighting M.S.A. He is survived by his wife Sharon M. Wolf and children, Dr. Edward A. Wolf III, his wife Stephanie and their 2 children Isabella and Edward who live in San Antonio, and Paul Gregory Wolf, his wife Gitta and their 2 children, Patrick and Shawn, who live in Esbjerg, Denmark.
Dr. Wolf was born in Spokane, Washington to a schoolteacher mother and a pharmacist father. He was the second of five children: Dr Ellen Wolf, Virginia Wolf, John Wolf, and Robert Wolf. He was raised in a Catholic home where hard work, dedication, and education were emphasized. His education included Gonzaga Prep, Gonzaga University, and Creighton Medical School in Omaha.
After medical school he went to L.A. County Hospital to do his internship where he met his future wife, Sharon Melvin a girl from Wyoming, who moved to L.A. to work as an R.N. Sharon and Ted realized over the following year that they shared numerous interests, love of art, classical music, literature, travel, and gourmet cooking.
After his internship, Ted went to the University of Washington in Seattle, focusing on vascular surgery. In Seattle Ted and Sharon continued their relationship where they married and had 2 sons: Edward “Eddie” Anthony Wolf III and Paul “Pogi” Gregory Wolf.
After 5 years in Seattle Ted did his military service in the Air Force, assigned to Clark Airforce Base in the Philippines where he was stationed for two and half years.
From Clark they went to Los Angeles where he did a one-year preceptorship with Dr. Max Gaspar. Having completed his preceptorship, it was time to find a place to practice. After looking at several possibilities, his fellow vascular trainee from Seattle, Dr. David Mozersky, called him from San Antonio, Texas where David had started his practice, and asked Ted to join him as he had a busy practice and needed a partner. They were trained together at the University of Washington under Dr. Gene Strandness.
Not knowing what Texas was about the Wolfs visited David, liked the opportunities, and decided to move to San Antonio. Ted remained with his practice and was joined by many partners making it one of the largest vascular groups in the US, which is now called P.V.A.
Ted’s work was paramount to him. He was totally dedicated to his surgery, his fellow physicians, the people in his office and operating rooms. Although very busy, he was aware of their needs and their help in making him a successful physician.
Ted’s life was full. The family travelled, skied, and he cared for his 5 acres of land. He helped raise 5 Chesapeake Bay Retrievers the last of which, Baby, stayed at his side until he passed.
Ted and Sharon continued to travel much of the world, travelling by planes, trains, cars, boats, vans, bikes, and the soles of their shoes. They accumulated knowledge about other countries, be it Russia or Antarctica, but they always had a soft spot for France, their favorite place to visit. Much thanks to Pamela and David McInnis M.D. for arranging most of their trips and for accompanying them on most of these travels.
When he wasn’t working Ted read books always eager to learn; he kept reading until his final days. During the winter he would take to the ski slopes in Colorado or Utah. He also had a house on Lake LBJ where he enjoyed spending weekends during the spring and summer.
He loved his family: Sharon, Eddie and Pogi. He was a man of high achievement,
he enjoyed spending time with his sons and was pleased with their successes in education, sports, careers, and families. “Good men” he’d say.
Ted left behind a legacy of excellence and dedication to his career. He will be remembered by the medical community for many years as an outstanding, dedicated surgeon and doctor, by his family for his generosity, his belief in high goals, and a man who enjoyed his friends and family. He will be missed by those who were a part of his life.
The family will receive friends for a visitation held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with refreshments at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
