
Eddie Greenberg died August 11, 2001 at the age of 90. He was born December 10, 1910 in Omaha, Nebraska, the second son of Sam and Rose Greenberg. He was loved and respected by all of his family and his many friends. In the grocery business while living in Freer, Texas in the 1930's he was a founding member of the Jim Wells Masonic Lodge. In San Antonio, he was a a longtime member of the Albert Pike Lodge. He was a 70 year Mason and a Shriner with the Alzafar Shriners. In 1945, he established Empire Furniture Company downtown on Main Ave. and later moved to Fredericksburg Rd at Babcock until his retirement in 1985. He was known as "Mr. San Antonio' by the furniture reps at the Dallas Furniture Market because of his excellent sense of style. He was a longtime member of Congregation Agudas Achim, serving on its Board of Trustees. He was a man blessed in his lifetime with two happy and loving marriages; the first to Nell Hyman Greenberg, a blessed memory for 40 years, the second to Leonord Babe Pidgeon Greenberg for 27 years. He is survived by his wife, Leonord Babe Greenberg; 2 daughters, Shirley Kanter and husband, Jerry, Joan Bernstein and husband, Stuart, Barry Pidgeon and wife, Zona, Harold Pidgeon and wife, Shirley, Sharon Koren and husband, Nat; grandchildren, Deborah and Marc Freedman, Jack Kanter, Mark and Linda Kanter, Sam Kanter, Lauri Bernstein, Marci and Robert Matz, Steve and Cathy Bernstein, Steven and Leslie Pidgeon, Michael and Pamela Pidgeon, David and Sheryl Pidgeon, Daniel and Mindi Pidgeon, Brian and Lisa Pidgeon, Larry Pidgeon, Mark and Darlene Pidgeon, Bruce and Jessica Koren, Deena and Mike Swidler, and Shelley Koren; 25 great grandchildren; brother, Phillip Greenberg; brother-in-law, Oscar Eisenberg; sister-in-law, Miriam Hyman Grossman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
