Edgar Rudolph Kleck Jr., went to be with the Lord on the morning of Saturday, May 6, 2023. He was born to parents Edgar and Clara Kleck Sr. on October 1st, 1939, in San Antonio, Texas. Eddie enjoyed his German roots and Texas upbringing and raised his family in San Antonio. He loved being a father, coaching football, coaching baseball, taking his family to Lake LBJ and the family ranch (Honey Creek Ranch), and snow skiing. Spending time with his friends and family and going to his breakfast club with friends every Friday were his favorite past times. He was a fantastic father, doting husband, adoring grandfather, caring brother, and trusted friend. There was nothing he would not do for his children.
Early on, Eddie excelled in athletics, played football, and was an Eagle Scout. In 1957, Eddie graduated from Jefferson High School. Eddie started working early in high school for his father, Edgar R. Kleck Sr., at Kleck Plumbing, along with his younger brother Arthur J. Kleck. Eddie attended The University of Texas at Austin and graduated from Trinity University with a degree in Business Administration while working for his father. Eddie continued to work alongside his father and brother and introduced air conditioning to his father’s business. While Eddie’s father was not entirely on board with introducing air conditioning into the already successful plumbing company, Eddie pushed and pushed his father into accepting the air conditioning. Kleck Plumbing was renamed Kleck Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning. Eddie continued working with his father from the ’60s until he retired in the early ’80s. Eddie loved solving highly systematic problems in his field. He worked on some of San Antonio’s most prominent hotels and historic buildings, such as the renovation of the St. Anthony Hotel, renovation of the Gunter Hotel, renovation of First Presbyterian Church, HemisFair Plaza, First Baptist Church, Southwest Craft Center, the Milam Building, Club Giraud, and the Aztec Theater. Eddie would always find the fix for some of the most complicated problems. Eddie was brilliant at problem-solving, and his tenacity drove his success. He never quit anything he started. Eddie retired after 57 years in the business.
In his spare time, Eddie enjoyed working with his hands on classic cars, his 1965 Century Woody Resorter, his Lincoln Continentals, tinkering, and fixing anything that broke.
Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Edgar Kleck, and former wife Sherrie Kleck. Eddie is survived by his adoring wife of 25 years, Patsy Carr Kleck; brother Arthur J. Kleck; sons, Edgar R. Kleck III “Kip” (Dawn) and Johnston T. Kleck (Paula); stepdaughter, Natalie Carr; grandchildren, Cole Kleck, Elise Kleck, Madison Kleck, Taylor Kleck, Tenley Kleck, Cannon Kleck, and Tristan Carr.
