Edgar joined the Marine Corps in 1942, and served his country three years, spending one year in Guam. He married Lillian Hagopian in 1946, and then went to work for International Harvester in 1947. Edgar and his wife attended Baptist Temple Church in San Antonio, and he was baptized in 1949.
Edgar was one of six children and the eldest boy in his family. He continued his work for International Harvester in Corpus Christi and Bishop until November 1959, when Edgar purchased Brown Equipment Company, a farm equipment dealership in Kenedy, Texas. He and Lillian worked side by side in that business and also another business they owned, the Karnes County Smoke House. They raised and educated their four children in Kenedy, where they made their home for 28 years.
In 1969 Edgar was ordained as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Kenedy. He was a lifelong Rotarian, served as President of that organization and also helped to get a new hospital built for the community. In Kenedy, Ed also served on the school board and served as interim mayor. He loved hunting deer and raising cattle, but his greatest joy seemed to be spending time with his eight grandchildren. Ed was an ethical and honest businessman, a caring employer, devoted husband, compassionate father, and devout Christian.
He is survived by his four children, Sharon Brown Parker and her husband, Mike Parker of Austin, Janet Robertson and her husband, Bill Robertson of San Antonio, Eddie Brown and his wife, Marsha Brown of Clifton, and Tim L. Brown and his wife, Stephanie Brown of San Antonio; his eight grandchildren, Allen Brown of Dubai, Zach Brown of Austin, Jeffrey Stewart of San Antonio, Daniel Kelleher of Austin, Amy Robertson Griffin of San Antonio, Bret Robertson of Los Angeles, Timothy L. Brown of San Antonio, and Parker W. Brown of San Antonio; seven great-grandchildren, Eden and Elijah Brown of Dubai, Laith, Bela, and Eleonora Griffin of San Antonio, Lillian Stewart of San Antonio, and Daniel Collin Kelleher of Austin; his brother, Charlie Brown and his sister, Ella Nora Hodges.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
