

He graduated from Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio, Texas, (1950) St. Mary's University with a Bachelor's of Business Administration (1953), and the University of Texas in Austin with a Master's of Education (1974).
While living in San Jose, Costa Rica he worked with his father who owned pharmacies and a medical and dental supply company. In 1954, he moved to San Antonio, Texas with his wife and first child, where he worked as teacher and administrator of both Edgewood School District and San Antonio District schools. His last position was as head of the SAISD migrant program. He retired after 37 years in education.
He was an active member of the San Antonio Area Retired Teacher's Association, Knights of Columbus Council 4140 and Council 2102, and St. Gregory's Catholic Church from its inception, where he served as an usher.
He enjoyed playing poker with his friends, loved watching sports, especially soccer games, the Cowboys, and the Spurs, and had a green thumb to go along with his passion for gardening. He enjoyed woodwork as a hobby and displayed his wares at a La Villita store where he donated part of the proceeds to feeding the poor.
He is survived by his daughters, Yvonne Thompson (Thomas), Linda, and Suzanne Kissling (Joseph); his two sons, Edgar Jr. and Robert (Tamara); 11 grandchildren, Saralyn Foster (Bryan), Matthew Fischel (Carrie), Leann Fischel, Tommy Thompson (Analissa), Kenneth Thompson (Amy), Courtney Northern (Shane), Robert Jr., and Alexis Fischel, Joey Kissling (Jill), Lindsey Jason (Tanner), and Lillian Kissling; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 10:00AM with a funeral mass to follow at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, 700 Dewhurst Rd, San Antonio, TX 78213.
Interment will take place at 2:30PM at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78266.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Little Church of La Villita, 418 Villita St., Building 13, San Antonio, Texas 78205.
